This new piece, Wednesday, explores notions of series, the passage of time, and images purposely obscured or revealed to advance the narrative. These ideas were inspired partly by images and processes I saw in the Chuck Close printmaking retrospective in Washington DC in summer 2010 and by the nature of my medium. Egg tempera paintings are constructed of many veils of paint. I wanted to make this process one facet of the subject of this painting. This painting is 19" high by 30" wide and took about 5 months to complete. Pencil studies are shown below. October 2011
